Giving Tuesday for Churches: 3 Simple Tips You Can Use Today

Today is Giving Tuesday! If you panicked because you forgot to prep your church for it, then this post is for you.

Giving Tuesday began in 2012 with a simple purpose: to connect people around the world through the act of generosity. It’s also a day that churches can use to celebrate all that God has done and offer ways for people to give back.

Here are three simple church-focused Giving Tuesday tips you can put into action today to boost your year-end church giving

1. Share on social

Giving Tuesday provides social media images you can use to promote the event. There are options for most social media platforms—including image overlays so you can share your own images with the Giving Tuesday logo.

They even have a social media toolkit you can use that includes ideas for copy and content. Check out the toolkit here.

Pro tip: We recommend focusing your preparation around social media because it’s the primary avenue for people to share about their participation, including the hashtags: #givingtuedsay, #mygivingstory, and #UNselfie.

2. Tell a story

At Faithlife, we get to hear story after story about the impact local churches are making in communities around the world. Recently, a pastor told us about a food bank his church runs that provides thousands of pounds of food to their town each week. Another church had a back-to-school party for elementary students and gave away over $5,000 in school supplies.

Looking back at what God’s done in your church this year is not only powerful but also encouragement for the year to come.

What stories can you share about what God is doing through your church? They don’t have to be complicated or lengthy. Just share a quick summary of each story, a photo, and a link for people to give.

3. Remember why we give

Generosity isn’t just a characteristic of God—it’s who he is. Paul calls confidently for cheerful giving because we have a generous God.

We can do the same.

Remind people what Jesus did for the five thousand and four thousand (Matt 14:13–21; 15:32–39) and for the greater spiritual provision he made for the world (Matt 26:26–29).

Pro tip: Don’t forget to have fun! Giving Tuesday is a celebration of generosity, so enjoy connecting with your congregation and giving back together.
