Alone, You Will Burn Out. It Will Happen.

Don’t be a Moses.

“Don’t be a Moses?” you think. “But Moses was an incredible leader!”

Yeah, an incredible leader who almost burned out.

Until Jethro stepped in.

In Exodus 18, Jethro came to Moses to see about everything that had been going on. And he was impressed.

But when he saw that Moses spent all day leading alone, he was not impressed:

“What is this you are doing for the people? Why do you alone sit as judge, while all these people stand around you from morning till evening?”

Moses answered him, “Because the people come to me to seek God’s will. Whenever they have a dispute, it is brought to me, and I decide between the parties and inform them of God’s decrees and instructions.”

Moses’ father-in-law replied, “What you are doing is not good. You and these people who come to you will only wear yourselves out. The work is too heavy for you; you cannot handle it alone.” (Exodus 18:14–18)

The work is too heavy for you; you cannot handle it alone.

If there are truths to write on the doorframe of your church office, that’s one of them.
