Best Hillsong Songs (Part 2)

Hillsong Church has released over 40 worship albums since the early 90s. Songs from these albums regularly feature in the top 25 songs sung worldwide recorded through the CCLI.

I recently wrote a post about 5 of my favorite Hillsong songs, here are 5 more:

  1. “Scandal of Grace”—This song offers a different perspective on grace. As Joel Houston puts it, “When we think about scandalous, we think about something that is wrong, negative, but I love the paradoxical nature of the Gospel and the fact is the grace of God through Jesus is completely scandalous.” I often use it to open or to transition into a slower section of my set. One thing to note is that that the 6/8-time signature can pose problems for less experienced musicians and singers.

Favorite line: The scandal of grace, You died in my place

  2. “The Stand”—A call to respond and surrender to God. The bridge lyrics are based on Romans 5:1-3 which are powerful words to rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. I frequently use the bridge stand alone especially in spontaneous moments. The Stand is a favorite for baptisms and worship nights.

Favorite line: I’ll stand with arms high and heart abandoned

  3. “Anchor”—Hope is a concept that is very relatable and these lyrics carry a timeless message. Coming out of Hebrews 6, Anchor is a song of hope in God’s promise. I like to close with the bridge and revisit it a few times throughout the song. Including a drum only section in the bridge is also a must.

Favorite line: You gave everything to save the world You love

  4. “This I Believe (The Creed)”—The Apostles’ Creed is one of the most unifying statements of the Christian faith. Centered around the core beliefs that have united the Church for ages, sections of the statement are used throughout the song culminating in a longer portion being used in the third verse. The song has some unconventional chord changes and can feel a little long if played all the way through but is guaranteed to bring congregations together around the foundations of our faith.

Favorite line: For I believe in the name of Jesus

  5. “The Lost Are Found”—Based on the words of Jesus in Matthew 11, this song is a proclamation that God is healing, restoring, and in control. This song serves as a reminder that God is continually present and working in our daily lives. Hillsong also released an acoustic arrangement of this song that I use quite frequently.

Favorite line: Lord over everything You are near
